Moving electronic gadgets

We love our electronic gadgets, so when it’s time to move, we want to make the transfer as smoothly and carefully as possible. Today we’re going to talk about how to pack those beauties for the big move, even if you don’t have the original box.

Original box

Of course, the original box is the best option for packing electronics, but that’s a lot of empty boxes to keep in storage between moves. Many times, the electronics owner won’t have the original box, but that’s okay. We have other options that will keep your electronics safe during the move. Read on!

Bubble wrap

Bubble wrap is a superior product to use for wrapping electronics. Small bubble wrap prevents scratching, and larger bubble wrap provides an excellent cushion. Many people like to wrap their electronics in small bubble wrap, and then wrap the small bubble wrap with larger bubble wrap, to get the best in both protection and cushioning.

Cord map

Before disassembling your electronic system, make a map of where each cord and plug belongs. Some people take a photo. Others draw a sketch on the top of the packing box or make labels for each cable and corresponding port. The essential key is not how you do it, but that you do it before disconnecting everything. Once you have a cord map, you can disassemble the electronics and pack them for moving.

Packing

Packing is a bit tricky because it’s so easy to lose things in the box forest when you arrive at the new place. To make sure nothing gets waylaid, be certain to pack all of the components together. There’s nothing worse than having a missing mouse, keyboard, or charger. Remember to mark each cord or photograph it with its designated item.

Remove 100 percent of the loose items from your devices. This means all USB’s, discs, ink, cords, and more. We promise you than anything you leave attached or inside has the potential to either get ruined or to damage your device. It’s simply not worth the risk.

Switching service

Sometimes it takes a few weeks to activate the internet, cable tv, and other services. One wouldn’t think it would take such a long time but arrange for the switchover at least a month in advance. Some companies require a landlord approval form to be completed before they will switch the service, and service isn’t the same everywhere, either, so the customer may not be able to keep his old service provider, depending on where he moves. In that case, the new company may require a deposit before they will start the service.

If packing and moving your electronics makes you nervous, or you don’t want to mess with them, we can pack, move, and set up your electronics for you. It can offer great peace of mind, especially for those who are busy or who don’t have the ability to be running wires in hard to reach places.
